Can I convince you to read a book?

I’m not going to lie, I HATED reading. I never found it interesting and for the longest time I thought it was the most annoying thing to do. I would always fall asleep while reading a book and to make things worse, i’m a slow reader…yeah…so i’ll leave it up to your imagination to guess how long it took me to finish the average book.

However, there came a point in my life where the people that I would get my intellectual content from kept talking about the benefits of reading. They would go into detail about the book they read last month or what they plan on reading this month and so on. So I ended up pausing and had to really think to myself and say you know what if these people that I look up to are taking time out of their day to read 1, maybe 2 and even 3 books a month then there must be a reason why, and so I should start to. And i’m not gonna lie to y’all, but from that day on, I fell in love. I am honestly so proud that I can say, that reading is one of my favourite hobbies of all time.

The amount of information that you can gain from a reading a book is out of this world. It’s crazy. To add on, a lot of successful people read books. Not just one or two books every now and then, but they actually make it a lifestyle.

Tom Corley, author of Change your habits, change your life, conducted a study and one of the results from that study stated that 88% of people who are ‘successful’ read a book for at least 30 minutes a day. The percentage on that is super crazy, in my opinion, and if you think about it…reading for 30 minutes a day is really not that hard to do. With that being said, there are different factors to take into account here, such as what is one’s definition of ‘success’, what types of books are being read and are they actually applying the information and wisdom that they gain from those books into their everyday life. All in all, reading is a powerful tool. It’s a tool, that is not only good for your physical health — Researchers at Yale University School of Public Health conducted a study where the results showed that people who read books regularly had a 20% lower risk of dying within the next 12 years — it also aids with the stimulation of your mental health and can help you achieve a certain level of success.

Still not convinced? Vincent Carlos posted his own article on the reading habits of highly successful people. I definitely recommend you check it out. It’s a very good read and it’s a great way to see how reading can play a big role for one’s success in life.

With all of this being said, the book that I am highly recommending everyone to read for the month of February is I Will Teach You to Be Rich by Ramit Sethi. This book was given to me by one of my friends and when I say that when I started reading it I could not put it down…I mean it. I could not put it down. This book was one of the first books I have ever read about financial literacy and it is truly a work of art. The 6-week program that the book is based off of is pure gold and the author delivers the content in a way that you can get a good laugh out of it, but yet is super applicable to one’s life.

Now you may be wondering (or not) why are you recommending a book about finances. That is because I have become very passionate about personal finance and financial literacy in general. I definitely have come to realize that it is a topic that most people will kind of sweep under the rug and deal with it when they absolutely have to. But we cannot continue to live like this anymore. It is super unhealthy and adds a lot of unwanted stress. Trust me i’ve been there.

The best time to have educated yourself about the topic of money was 20 years ago, the second-best time is NOW! Do not allow yourself to work for the system any longer, but make the system work for you and I guarantee you if you invest your money into this book, you will not regret it.

Stay safe everyone!
